Are you new to ebikes? Need a little top up in ebike education? Here is a list of what to look for in the order of importance.
The Warranty - The Most Important Consideration!
All Golden Motor products feature a full one year replacement warranty! We believe in and stand by our products!. We have NO Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) charge for a warranty. Our warranty is included in the price of all our products, Beware of other dealers that charge a Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) which means if you buy a 900 conversion kit and want a warranty they will charge you an additional 150 dollars or so to inspect their own product before they sell it to you and then provide a warranty.
The Battery - Determines how far you can go!
We use only lithium batteries in our kits. They cost about twice as much as led acid but last about 4 times longer. Lead acid is usually good for about 200 charges and Lithium about 800 charges. In theory it takes about 250w to propell an average bike and rider 32kph on a flat surface. The formula for calculating how long a battery will pull you is (Voltage X AmpHours / Watts) X Speed. Many batteries used in ebikes are only 24V and if a battery does not list its amp hours its probably below 10 a/h. Most venders brag about 10 a/h batteries. We use only Lithium 36V16 AH Batteries. Here are a few distance calculations to consider.
(36V X 16AH / 250W ) X 32KPH = 73.728k - Our batteries. We have seen no other competitor with a 16AH battery
(36V X 10AH / 250W) X 32KPH = 46.08k - Best battery found in use by our competitors.
(24V X 10AH / 250W) X 32KPH = 30.72k - Most common battery found in use by our competitors.
As you can see the battery makes alot of difference!
Wheel hub motor - Determines how fast you can go on level ground, against wind or uphill.
Although mounting an electric hub wheel to the front of your bike does seem a little easier, most bicycles sold today have thin front forks, suspension forks or even alluminum forks. These forks most likely are not strong enough to handle the stress of full throttle acceleration or the stress of deacceleration caused by braking or regenerative braking. The constant rocking back and forth can break them off or the constant back and forth twisting of the forks at the nuts that tighten the wheel on can tear the ends of the forks off. Losing your front wheel at a high speed while in traffic can be devastating and even tragic. We recommend using rear wheel upgrade kits unless you are sure your front forks can handle it.
We use 500w wheel hub motors. A lot of venders sell 250w hubs. Although in theory it only takes about 250w to propell an average bike and rider 32kph on a flat surface. do you really want to run your motor flat out at all times? Also, there are many external factors that effect this such as wind, hills, terrain etc. So. if you are travelling against the wind or in a hilly area it would not take long to wish you had more power when you need it.
Cruise Control - Nice option! Sit back and relax!
Our controller has Cruise Control that actually kicks out when going downhill and kicks back in when going up. Keeping a steady speed on a flat surface is effortless. I use my Cruise Control about 95 percent of the time and could never go without it. If a vender does not list Cruise Control then they definately don't have it and it is such a great option!
Extras and included accessories
Most venders do not include any extras. However, some do include things like and airpump, tube and tire, bicycle tool kit and horn. We feel if you already have a bicycle that you intend to upgrade you probably already have an airpump, tools and certainly a tube and tire off your existing wheel.
